The PN60E550 is one of Samsung’s mid range models for 2012, it has all the features you would expect from a top range model, however it does not deliver in terms of overall quality when compared to more expensive models, such as the Samsung UN60ES8000. For $1300 plus the fact it has 3D capability and built-in Wi-Fi, the Samsung PN60E550 is a fantastic option as a mid-range sixty inch TV that is also future proofed.

Picture Quality

Black Levels – The PN60E550 does not come with All Black Pure Filter that higher end Samsung HD TVs come with, however the black levels are still impressive. In darker rooms without bright lights, the black levels and contrast is fantastic, putting a lot of similarly priced LED TVs to shame.

Color Accuracy – The color accuracy is very impressive, it delivers balanced natural tones with fantastic detail and depth, this is particularly noticeable in how natural flesh tones look. Plasmas can have a tendency to produce over-saturated colors, causing unnatural tones. With properly calibrated settings the PN60E550 offers awesome color accuracy.

Video Motion – There were no problems in this field, we couldn’t detect any motion blur or ghosting. Samsung added a feature called CinemaSmooth which is supposed to improve video smoothness for movies and films, we didn’t notice it make any difference though.

Bright Lighting – When looking closely at the PN60E550′s performance with bright lighting, you can see a slight loss of picture quality, especially in terms of black levels and color accuracy. The loss in picture quality isn’t drastic and won’t ruin your viewing pleasure, but it’s worth noting.

3D Quality

The Samsung PN60E550 uses active 3D and it isn’t the best performer when it comes to 3D quality, there is noticeable cross-talk which is irritating and essentially makes the picture look blurry. There was a large reduction in cross-talk when the CinemaSmooth was turned on, however cross-talk was still visible. Whilst there is definitely improvement on earlier Samsung models, there are still clear problems.

On a brighter note, it does come with two free pairs of 3D glasses which is a welcome surprise since most 3D TVs don’t come with free glasses, meaning you normally have to buy them separately for around $50 to $100 a piece. The free pair usually cost roughly $40 each so it’s a great addition, as you save money and you can get stuck into 3D viewing straight out of the box.

Features

The Samsung PN60E550 is one the cheapest 2012 HD TVs to offer Smart TV as well as 3D, making it a stand-out model for anyone looking for a 60″ TV with the latest technologies, at a cut price.

Smart TV

The PN60E550 comes with Samsung’s Smart TV, it comes with all the services you would expect as standard, such as Netflix, Pandora, Hulu, YouTube, Vudu plus all the popular social networking services too. It does not come with Amazon Instant though, a service available on other major brand’s Smart TV services.

Whilst it lacks Amazon Instant, Samsung’s Smart TV comes with one exclusive service that is highly sought after; HBO GO. This allows you to watch HBO shows on-demand, the video playback is smooth and doesn’t lose any picture quality, and we didn’t experience any streaming problems such as lag or blurriness.

Internet browsing is another new feature that is catching on, the browser in Samsung’s Smart TV is by far the best browser we’ve seen built into a TV. It’s just as functional as a normal web browser you’d find on your laptop or desktop, you can even connect a keyboard and a mouse to the TV using the 2 USB slots.

Connectivity

The PN60E550 comes with 3 HDMI ports and 2 USB ports, with 2 HDMI ports and both USB ports on the side of the TV. This is a very useful design feature, because it means if you wall mount the TV, you can easily to take out and change the cables.

In terms of the amount of ports, 3 HDMIs and 2 USBs should be plenty for most people, as most people do not have more than 3 devices that require a HDMI cable and if you do have more than three, then a HDMI splitter can be easily bought for $10 or so.

It also comes with built-in Wi-Fi so you don’t have to mess around with cables to connect the TV to the internet, you can simply connect via Wi-Fi, this makes using the Smart TV and built-in web browser really simple.

It doesn’t however, come with a standard VGA port used for connecting desktop or laptop computers to the TV so unless you can use a HDMI cable, you won’t be able to use the PN60E550 as a computer monitor.

Sound Quality

The sound quality from the PN60E550 is surprisingly good when compared to other 2012 HD TVs, whilst it is not as impressive as a surround sound system, it is good enough to use on a permanent basis, something that can’t be said of most high end HD TVs.

Design

The Samsung PN60E550 has a standard black bezel surrounding the screen, with a thin lining of clear acrylic around the outside of the bezel. It has a standard flat black stand in the same style as the bezel, the stand swivels too, which makes finding the perfect viewing angle really easy.

The Samsung UN60ES6100 is the fourth best LCD TV from Samsung this year, with the UN60ES8000 being the best model (you can read our UN60ES8000 review here). It has stunning picture quality and plenty of online features with built-in Wi-Fi but it doesn’t come with 3D capability. It is a great television that offers fantastic value for money, perfect for anyone who wants to use online service but not have 3D functionality.

Picture Quality

The UN60ES6100′s picture quality is outstanding, it has the same picture quality of the UN60ES6100 but it is half the price. Awesome black levels, depth, color accuracy and detail, there is no motion blur or judder either. The only negative would be the slight glare sometime experienced in very bright rooms.

Black Levels – The black levels show a huge improvement over 2011 Samsung models, they are dark and inky. Especially in shadowy scenes, where in previous models the blacks were overpowering and this caused washed out images. The UN60ES6100′s impressive black levels keeps lots of detail, even in really dark scenes.

Color Accuracy – The UN60ES6100 has fantastic color accuracy, the picture is extremely immersive and has huge amounts of depth. The black levels meant the contrast was really impressive and this allowed for stunning detail and color accuracy.

Video Motion – The 240 Clear Motion Rate from the UN60ES6100 means you never suffer from juddery pictures or motion blur. This is fantastic for anyone who watches a lot of fast moving content, such as live sports, films or gaming.

Bright Lighting – The screen is semi-matte and you can sometimes notice glare on the screen, especially if there is a light directly pointed at the television. You don’t need a dark room to enjoy the UN60ES6100 but you definitely don’t want direct light.

Features

Online Capability – There is a lot of online options available, there is Samsung’s app store that gives you access to over 1,500 apps and there is also the Smart Hub which allows you to use services like Netflix, Amazon Video, VuDu and many, many more. The Smart Hub means you’ll never have a dull night in, there are literally millions of movies to choose from. The App store has tonnes of useful apps too, covering news, weather, sports plus all the usual social apps like Twitter, Facebook and so on.

There is also a web browser, completely controlled by the remote, however it is a normal remote so it doesn’t have a QWERTY keyboard, just the normal directional buttons to control everything, this makes doing anything very slow. It is a proper web browser so you can look at anything on the internet, loading speeds are fast too but without a mouse and keyboard, doing normal online tasks is very slow.

Connectivity – The built-in Wi-Fi is a great feature, as it means you can quickly connect to the internet automatically, the connection is very strong and there is no noticeable loss of speed. The UN60ES6100 also comes with 3 HDMI ports and 3 USB ports, which is a satisfactory amount for the majority of people.

Sound Quality – The sound quality was very good for a 2 inch thick TV, whilst it doesn’t produce the audio quality of a surround sound system, it has fantastic sound for a flat screen TV. We’d still recommend buying a surround sound system, just so you can get a well rounded viewing experience.

Design – The design is very minimalistic, a simple half inch band surrounding the screen and a four legged stand that also swivels. We really liked the stand because it is very original and makes the TV look even more stable. Plus it swivels 20 degrees either side, which is great for finding the right viewing angle.

Picture Quality

The picture quality was as good as any 60 inch TV in the range; the LG 60PM6700 has 1080p resolution meaning it can deliver the highest picture quality currently possible and coupled with neat features like Picture Wizard II and Intelligent Sensor means it is extemely easy to get the perfect picture settings for you.

Black Levels – The 60PM6700 comes with a brand new and improved black filter, this massively increases the quality of the black levels. You can really notice how good the contrast is, with the blacks being dark and also completely even but the whites are also crisp and bright. Not only does this help with general coloring but it also gives images huge amounts of depth and detail.

Color Accuracy – The color accuracy is phenomenal, since the black levels and contrast are so good, it translates into awesome color accuracy too. Colors are extremely rich and it creates really deep pictures with vibrant tones. Even when viewing in 2D, the color accuracy provides so much detail that it almost looks like a 3D image.

Video Motion – The 60PM6700 has a 600hz refresh rate and that simply means it completely eliminates any motion blur that inferior televisions normally suffer from during live sports events or during action films. Instead the image is extremely smooth and crisp, there is no blurring or ghosting at all.

Bright Lighting – LG 60PM6700 has a special Intelligent Sensor feature that registers the amount of light hitting the screen and it adjusts the picture accordingly, so in theory you always get the best picture quality possible. However we did notice small amounts reflectivity on the screen, as plasma TVs have glass screens.

3D Quality

The quality of the 3D viewing from 60PM6700 was highly impressive. We didn’t notice any blurring or ghosting so it was possible to enjoy 3D content without any glitches or technical problems. Sometimes picture quality is lost when viewing in 3D, but with the 60PM6700, we saw the same high amounts of details, color accuracy and black levels.

It does not come with 3D glasses so if you have to buy them separately, we also noticed slight flickering from the glasses when watching 3D content in bright rooms, so for the best 3D quality make sure you’re in a dim to dark room, basically try and recreate the same levels of darkness you would find in a cinema.

Features

Online Capability – The 60PM6700 comes with built-in Wi-Fi so you can instantly connect to a Wi-Fi network, you don’t have to buy any extras. It also has LG’s Smart TV service which allows you to access on-demand movies and programmes, use apps and browse the web plus a tonne of other stuff. This allows you to watch movies in HD from services like Netflix, Vudu etc and you can also stream live sports events in HD too with services from MLB.

Connectivity – It comes with 4 HDMI ports and 2 USB ports, which is probably more than enough for 99% of people, we think it’s the perfect amount. There are HDMI and USB ports on the side, which is perfect for anyone who wants to wall mount their TV and move the cables as well.

Sound Quality – The sound quality is above average for a flat screen TV, it’s not the same level of quality you would get from a surround sound system but for a screen that is only a few inches thick, it is impossible to accomodate a high quality sound system.

Design – The 60PM6700 has a sleak black bezel surrounding the screen with a normal black stand that also swivels, which is great for finding the perfect viewing angle without having to move the entire television. We think the design is subtle and attractive, nothing amazing but nothing too brash either.

The LG 60PA6500 is a no frills plasma that does everything you would want from a high end HD TV without the fancy extras such as 3D capability, Internet TV or built-in Wi-Fi. Making it the perfect solution for anyone looking to get a 60 inch TV on a tight budget or for anyone who simply doesn’t want the added extras that come with most TVs. At under $1000 the 60PA6500 is a fantastic television and whilst the price might suggest a lack of quality, it delivers on all fronts especially when it comes to picture quality.

Picture Quality

The LG 60PA6500 has 1080p resolution so the picture quality is fantastic, at the same level as other top end high definition TVs. The out of the box picture settings can be to some people’s distaste so make sure you tweak it or get it properly calibrated to get the best picture quality possible.

Black Levels – The LG 60PA6500 has a new black filter that is a massive improvement on other recent models, meaning the blacks are extremely dark and inky whilst the whites are very light and clean. This allows for phenomenal contrast and provides huge amounts of depth, no matter how dark or bright the picture is.

Color Accuracy – The color accuracy is breath taking, as impressive as models that are over $2000 let alone for under $1000. The 1080p resolution and fantastic black levels, means the colors are rich, vibrant and deeply accurate.

Video Motion – The 60PA6500 has 600hz motion which is simply the amount of frames it shows per second, the higher the number the higher the quality and at 600hz this model is equal to TVs two or three times its price. This completely eliminates any motion blur and ghosting that you would normally experience whilst watching movies or live sports.

Bright Lighting – The Intelligent Sensor feature detects the amount of light hitting the screen and adjusts the picture accordingly, meaning no matter how bright or dark the room is, you will always get optimal picture quality. It is a completely automatic feature, so you won’t have to adjust or do anything.

Features

Connectivity – The 60PA6500 does not come with built-in Wi-Fi but then again it does not have any built-in online features so there is really no need for it to be internet ready. It does however have 3 HDMI ports perfect for people with media players, game consoles etc and it also has a single USB port, which are all on the side of TV making it easy to change cables if you wall mount.

Sound Quality – The sound quality is best described as well above average for a thin HD TV, it’s simply not possible to fit a high quality sound unit inside such a slim TV. Whilst it is not vital to use a surround sound system, I would highly suggest it as it massively improves your viewing experience.

Design – The LG 60PA6500 is incredibly thin, with the screen only being one inch thick, making it ideal for wall mounting. The bezel is slightly rounded around the corners of the television, which actually really improves the aesthetics and makes it very attractive looking.

The VIERA TC-P60GT50 is part of Panasonic’s second best range of HD TVs for 2012, it has fantastic picture quality with deep black levels, stunning color accuracy, great screen uniformity and awesome off angle viewing. The actual design is very classy too, one of the best looking TVs I’ve seen from Panasonic.

Since it is a plasma screen, it does have high power consumption but it doesn’t emit excessive amounts of heats which is an improvement of previous models. When compared to matte screens (plasma use glass screens) the performance in bright rooms isn’t as good.

Picture Quality

The VIERA TC-P60GT50 comes with THX modes which automatically calibrates your picture to give you the best picture settings based on lighting plus other environmental factors, usually these pre-set modes are awful but not this one. The picture quality with THX mode turned on is just as impressive and stunning, as when we manually adjusted the picture settings ourselves. This is great for anyone who turns people’s faces pink when trying to calibrate their TV.

Black Levels – The black levels are extremely impressive, very dark and inky, there was complete uniformity as well, no uneven darkness or lightness. Usually TVs will show shadows as one dark blotch, the TC-P60GT50 managed keep all detail and sharpness.

Color Accuracy – The color accuracy from VIERA TC-P60GT50 is almost identical to the Panasonic VIERA TC-P60ST50 but probably marginally better. It performed nearly as well as top of the range HD TVs that are twice the price of the TC-P60GT50.

Video Motion – Another area that the Panasonic VIERA TC-P60GT50 was impressive in was how well it dealt with fast motion video, we didn’t notice any blurring, ghosting or double images at all, even when viewing fast paced action scenes with lots of camera angle changes.

Bright Lighting – Plasmas have historically dealt badly with bright lighting, as it reflects with the glass screen but the VIERA TC-P60GT50 utilises a louvre filter which does well to reduce reflections and keep picture quality in tact.

3D Quality

Most televisions will lose considerable picture quality when viewing in 3D, the VIERA TC-P60GT50 nearly maintains the same black levels and color accuracy, it is clearly a top model when it comes to viewing in 3D. We did notice some ghosting and cross talk but nothing that will ruin your viewing experience.

The color accuracy meant pictures were deep and rich, which really enhanced the 3D images. We did notice some flickering through our 3D glasses due to window light, not constantly but every now and then, which might be a draw back for some people viewing in bright rooms.

Features

Online Capability – It comes with built-in Wi-Fi so you can connect to the internet straight away, if you have a Wi-Fi network, this is fantastic for anyone who hates ethernet cables trailing all across the house.

The VIERA TC-P60GT50 comes with Panasonic’s Viera Connect which offers all the best apps including Netflix, Hulu, Twitter and Facebook. You can even Skype, Twitter or Facebook whilst watching TV with the new social networking split screen feature.

Connectivity – The VIERA TC-P60GT50 comes with 4 HDMI ports and 3 USB ports, which is pretty much the standard as of 2012. It also comes with a rare PC input too, which is a great feature for anyone who wants a 60 inch computer monitor.

Sound Quality – The sound quality left a lot to be desired, as typical with the majority of high end flat screens, due to the thin profile of the television it is impossible to fit a high quality sound system as it is simply too slim. We highly recommend you purchase a separate surround sound system so you can truly appreciate the TC-P60GT50.

Design – The Panasonic VIERA TC-P60GT50 really is a great looking TV, it has a black band around the screen with a chrome strip around the edge. The stand has a two tone color appearance, which some people may like, most probably won’t though.

The Panasonic VIERA TC-P60ST50 is a fantastic TV with a lot of bang for your buck. It has breathtaking picture quality, the design is sleak and attactive and the menus are extremely useful and easy to navigate. It does have high power consumption and can sometimes be prone to glare but at this price point the VIERA TC-P60ST50 is incredible value for money.

Whilst it is a very easy television to set up, calibrate and connect to the internet, it is a two man job when it comes to lifting and moving it around, simply because of the size of it, plus you really don’t want to risk dropping this awesome HD TV by carrying it by yourself.

Picture Quality

To put it simply, the picture quality is phenomenal. The black levels are extremely deep, it has fantastic color accuracy and whilst most plasma screens are heavily affected by bright rooms, the TC-P60ST50 bright room performance is the best we’ve seen from a plasma.

Black Levels – The black levels are really impressive and you can notice the complete uniformity too, there is absolutely no fade effect that can often appear when there is a lot of black on screen. Even in the brightly lit rooms, the black levels still perform very well.

Color Accuracy – Possibly the best color accuracy from a Panasonic we’ve ever seen. The true balance of colors allows for a great picture and that is noticeable by the accuracy of things like skin tones and natural scenery.

Video Motion – We were pleased to see zero motion blur or ghosting when viewing the TC-P60ST50 in 60hz mode but you go to the lower setting of 48hz then you can notice some flickering. It also Panasonic’s own Motion Smoother technology, which doesn’t do anything noticeable and best not used.

Bright Lighting – When testing the TV in a bright room, we found there were some glare issues, admittedly not as much as other plasma TVs we  havetested but definitely something to take into consideration if put it into a bright room.

3D Quality

Just like all current TVs, the picture quality wasn’t as high when viewing in 3D. When watching movies or television in 48hz there is nearly no cross talk and ghosting, nothing that you would notice anyway. Bare in mind that this model does not come with 3D glasses, they will have to be purchased separately.

Features

Online Capability – The VIERA TC-P60ST50 comes with Panasonic’s own smart TV service called Viera Cast which allows you to download and use apps, such as Netflix, Amazon Video, Vudu, YouTube, Napster, Pandora, the usual social networking sites and even an online browser. The truly useful apps are the video services which are perfect for easy watching of movies and since it comes with built-in WiFi you can get started right away. Viera Cast also allows you to place your favourite apps on it’s main menu, perfect for quickly selecting your most used apps.

Connectivity – The Panasonic VIERA TC-P60ST50 only comes with 3 HDMI ports which might be a problem for some people but others wanting additional ports might have to keep switching out devices or could buy a splitter like this. It comes with 2 USB ports and an SD card slot too, perfect for anyone wanting to connect mobile devices, cameras etc.

Sound Quality – Surprisingly the sound quality was very good, usually such thin televisions struggle to produce a good sound but the Panasonic VIERA TC-P60ST50 excelled in this department. It still isn’t as good as a separate 5.1 surround system but it is more than bearable without.

Design – There is no question that the VIERA TC-P60ST50 is a great looking television, it is extremely thin being approximately 1.5 inches thick, the bezel is completely non-reflective which means it is not distracting. There are also easily accessible volume, channel, power and menu controls on the right side of the TV.

The Samsung UN60ES8000 is a fantastic television, that offers all the latest features that you would expect from a high end HDTV. It has 3D functionality, built-in WiFi and plenty of online features. In terms of picture quality, it is hard to separate it from any other 60 inch TV currently on the market, it is that good.

Picture Quality

The Samsung UN60ES8000 has exceptionally high picture quality, it uses the new Micro Dimming Ultimate technology to make sure there is a optimum screen uniformity, which means you won’t experience any back lighting issues, where you might notice that part of the picture is too light or too dark, instead the UN60ES8000 allows for natural brightness across the entire screen.

Picture depth and detail is fantastic, in both bright scenes and dark scenes, due to the impressive black levels on display. Most TVs will lose a lot of detail and depth during dark scenes, as the picture becomes washed out but the UN60ES8000′s very good black levels means you have just as much depth and detail during dark scenes as during bright, light scenes.

The color accuracy of the UN60ES8000 is great, all colors are natural and realistic, you won’t suffer from garish images or orange faces. Picture motion has also been significantly improved, with no color smudging ot unwanted light flickering and a huge reduction in screen blur allows for much smooth, cinematic pictures.

3D Quality

Before talking about the 3D picture quality, let me tell you that the UN60ES8000 comes with four pairs of 3D glasses, which is quite remarkable considering most 3D capable HD TVs don’t even come with one pair. They come with rechargeable batteries that you can charge via a USB port and they’re also compatible with other major brands such as Sony and Panasonic.

When viewing in 3D, the picture does not lose any brightness and it remains just as rich and clear as when viewing in 2D. The UN60ES8000 also does well when it comes to color correction and brightness compensation when watching 3D content, as previous models suffered from unnaturally dark and gloomy 3D pictures.

One major problem that previous Samsung 3D TVs had was ghosting (also known as cross talk), where the image separates into two images instead of staying as one 3D image. This problem has been dramatically improved with the UN60ES8000, to the point that ghosting isn’t visible at all or only on objects far in the distance.

One slight negative of 3D viewing is back light bleeding that can occur on the edges of the screen (especially in the corners), during dark scenes and images. Whilst this doesn’t affect every single UN60ES8000 model, it does decrease in severity or can completely go away after pro-longed use, which is said to be around 100 hours of use (known as the breaking in period).

Online Capability

Once you have set the internet up, you can access the Smart TV features, which comes with lots of apps, online services plus a few new services. One of the new services is called “Family Story” which allows you to create a password protected, private network with family members or friends, which allows you to share messages, photos and even share events via any Smart TV device.

Whilst the “Family Story” feature is quite cool and has obvious helpful uses, it offers nothing that other social media services like Facebook and Twitter do not offer already. Facebook and Twitter are some of the services you can also access, plus other popular services like Netflix and Skype. The UN60ES8000 comes with a built-in camera which is fantastic for Skype or similar services.

New Control Features

What sets the UN60ES8000 apart is the new control features, where you can actually control the TV using hand gestures, your voice and a touch pad. The hand gesture controls may sound the most impressive, but it does seem to have a lot of practical problems.

The hand gesture controls utilises the built-in camera placed on the top of the TV, it allows you to change channel and adjust volume plus lots of other functions with your hands. In theory, a fantastic idea but it is quite problematic, as the camera can be unresponsive or can misread body movements, which can cause unwanted actions like pausing a movie or switching off the TV accidentally.

The voice and touch pad controls are much better. The UN60ES8000 comes with two remote controls, a standard remote and also a Smart Touch remote. The Smart Touch remote comes with a built-in microphone so you can easily talk into the remote instead of typing when searching for something online or when you’re using voice activated controls for the TV.

The touch pad is like a mouse pad and your finger is the mouse, this is great for quickly selecting on-screen options and is a much improve alternative to using up, down, left and right to direct the cursor across the screen. The voice controls can easily be turned on and off, this is useful as it can accidentally execute an action (like turn the TV off or open up the TV guide) if you’re talking to someone or say something out loud.

Connectivity

It comes with built-in WiFi so you won’t have to worry about buying additional wireless adapters, you can easily connect to the internet straight away and it also comes with an Ethernet/LAN port so you can have a wired connection, which allows for a far stronger and steadier signal.

The Samsung UN60ES8000 comes with 3 HDMI and 3 USB ports, which might be enough for most people but for a top of the range 60 inch TV, you can’t help but feel that 3 HDMI ports is a little on the low side. You can always purchase a HDMI splitter but it would be better to have 4 or more slots, especially if you have multiple consoles plus other media players.

Sound Quality

Just like nearly every flat screen TV on the market, the sound quality from the UN60ES8000 is nothing to shout about. However you have to take into consideration, that when a screen is under 2 inches thick then it is simply impossible to fit a high quality sound unit. That’s why it’s impossible to find a flat screen TV with impressive sound quality, I’d highly recommend buying a surround sound system so the sound quality is just as good as the picture quality.

Design

The Samsung UN60ES8000 has an extremely unique and stunning design. It comes with a silver bezel around the screen and the stand is two thick flat legs. It certainly makes a change from the usual black mundane stands you see, it will impress a lot of people by how original and inventive it is.

Picture Quality

The Samsung UN60EH6000 uses clear screen coat technology, which creates fantastic picture depth and contrast. The color accuracy is superb, as is expected with an LED TV but colors can become unnatural if the backlight is set too high.

With proper calibration, the color tones are 100% accurate and this can be seen by the fantastic inky blacks and bright whites, which allows for superb detail and natural color rendition. The UN60EH6000 is huge improvement in terms of black levels compared to previous models, as detail is not lost when the picture is dark or dim.

The 120Hz Automotion is a great feature that is perfect for fast motion viewing, such as action films and sporting events. However the 120Hz Automotion can sometimes cause screen blur however this really isn’t noticeable unless you’re a video geek (like me!).

Online Features

Well quite simply, there are none. This is perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to use their TV to access online services and apps. You could still use the UN60EH6000 as a computer monitor though and access the internet that way, but you’ll need to connect via a HDMI cable as their isn’t a PC input port.

Gaming

The Samsung UN60EH6000 does not come with any specific pre-calibrated Game modes or settings and with just two HDMI cables, you might have to keep swapping devices if you have numerous games consoles and media players, however you could always use a HDMI splitter for just an extra $10.

Power Consumption

The power consumption is extremely low at just 70 W when in use and less than 1 W when on standby, this will cost you approximately between $10 and $20 per year in electrical bills depending on your usage.

Overall

The Samsung UN60EH6000 is a bare minimum 60 inch TV that offers all the essential basics, without any fancy extras such as 3D functionality or internet connectivity. Whilst this might be seen as a negative, it means it is much cheaper than most TVs in the 60 inch range at around $1800.

If you’re interested in having a TV that will just be a TV without all the bells and whistles then the Samsung UN60EH6000 is perfect for you.

Picture Quality

You know exactly what you’re getting when you purchase a plasma from Panasonic; a TV with absolutely stunning picture quality. What sets apart the TC-P60UT50 from earlier models is the improved 600Hz technology which allows pixel switching, this means frames are shorter allowing for much clearer and smooth picture motion.

What is most surprising is how deep the black levels are, as it is not one of the most expensive TVs in the 60 inch range but it produces black levels like it was. This gives the television astounding picture detail, even when showing very dark and dim pictures. The color accuracy is also fantastic, even without any tweaking or custom calibration.

The TC-P60UT50 doesn’t perform well in bright rooms though, due to a lack of light filter which causes a slight reduction in quality of the black levels. Obviously this is not a problem if you’re planning on using it in a dark room or are willing to watch with curtains closed, but it is something to consider.

3D Quality

The Panasonic VIERA TC-P60UT50 allows you to watch 3D content in 3D and it also allows you to convert standard 2D content into 3D. Their True-To-Life technology makes the quality of the 3D conversion as high as possible, by reducing the amount of cross talk and blur as much as possible.

It also uses 24p Cinema Smoother technology which drastically reduces motion blur and jerkiness, which means that pictures are smooth and natural. Unfortunately it does not come with 3D glasses so you’ll have to buy them separately if you want to view in 3D. However the two built-in USB ports make charging your 3D glasses really easy.

Online Features

The TC-P60UT50 does not come Wi-Fi ready so you will need to buy a wireless adapter separately or you can use an Ethernet cable. Once you’ve connected your TV to the internet, there are a huge amount of apps and online services that you can access straight away.

Some of the most popular and most useful include Netflix (great for films and TV shows), Twitter, Facebook and even Skype which can be used whilst watching live television. You don’t need to worry about memory or hard drives either, because any app or service downloaded won’t be stored on your television, though you can access it whenever you like.

Gaming

The VIERA TC-P60UT50 comes with two HDMI inputs, which isn’t ideal if you have one or more games consoles plus a Blu Ray player or similar devices. It has a pre-configured game mode that reduces the amount of lag from the connection of your games console to the television, it does make a slight difference and we’d definitely recommend using it.

Power Consumption

The power consumption for the VIERA TC-P60UT50 is relatively low compared to other TVs in the 60 inch range, it has an average power consumption of 139W, which would cost you anywhere from $20 to $40 per year in electrical bills depending on usage.

Overall
