LCD Technology
- LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display
- LCD technology utilizes the light modulating properties of liquid crystals in combination with Cold Cathode Fluorescent (CCFL) backlighting
- The backlight is constantly turned on and makes the panel produce visible light even in dark scenes, in other words high contrast can not be easily achieved with CCFL backlighting technology
- Life Span of LCD panels is approx. 20 – 30 years (assumed 8 hours / day)

LED Technology
- LED stands for Light Emitting Diodes
- LED TV technology still uses LCD panels, but the backlight is produced by LED diodes, those can easily be turned off when displaying deep blacks, this makes LED technology deliver high contrast image
- Life Span of LED panels is approx. 30 – 35 years (assumed 8 hours / day)
Plasma TVs

- 42 inches and larger
- Pros
- Highest picture quality compared to LCD and LED screens – images do not suffer from degradation at wide angles, very high refresh rates and fast response time
- Cons
- High power consumption
- Glass screen can cause glare
- More expensive than LCD screens
- Perfect for
- People who want the highest picture quality possible
Plasma Technology
- Plasma displays consist of small cells (or sub-pixels) filled with ionized gas that lights up when electrical current runs through them, one pixel is then made up of three cells with red, green and blue light
- Life Span of Plasma flat panels is approx. 10 – 20 years (assumed 8 hours / day)
